Carousel
horses have pranced on the carousels of the world for hundreds of years
and have given pleasure to countless people of all ages.
At
the Carousel Museum of New England, in Bristol, Connecticut, we are honored
to have many magical steeds entrusted into our care for restoration.
The
stripping of the old paint, the restoration of the wood and the application
of the numerous primer coats of paint is
interrupted only by sanding and takes great skill and patience.
These
steps are accomplished by Juan Andreu, Master Carver, formally trained
in Spain. Juan not only restores antique pieces but he creates spectacular
new wooden carousel pieces and sculptures in all mediums.
The
carousel animals are hand painted by our art department, managed by Judith
Baker, restoration artist. Great care
is taken with every detail right down to the application of gold or aluminum
leaf and the finishing touches including pinstriping.
The
animals receive a protective over-coating. The finish is flawless
and truly enhances the timeless beauty of these fanciful carousel animals.
