Frequently Asked Questions

Is there a working carousel?

Yes, there is! It is a Venetian Carousel that was made in 2021. It has scenes and architecture painted on the panels that depict Venice, Italy.

Can I ride the carousel?

As long as you're 12 years old or younger! It is a children's carousel, so only children 12 and under can ride the horses. Parents can accompany their children if the child is too small to ride on their own. Adults can strictly only ride the chariot or the teacup.

What does Fire History have to do with Carousels?

Fire departments are one of the ways to keep carousels safe and long-lasting. All of the older carousel pieces are fully wooden, which is extremely flammable. Firefighters help keep these art pieces and rides safe by putting out fires that would start from motor malfunctions, inlaid lights overheating catching the wood on fire, and other ways that would endanger the riders and the ride itself.

What does Greek Culture have to do with Carousels?

A lot of the major carousel carvers were immigrants from Europe. They either included Greek architecture motifs, like Acanthus leaves, in their carvings, or carved Greek mythological creatures, like Hippocampus, for riders to ride on instead of horses. While the Museum of Greek Culture, at first, seems out of place, Greek art and motifs permeate into a lot of art forms, including carousel carvings and rides.
